month: April 2010

Renato and Rebeca are expecting their first baby in just another couple of weeks now. They came in recently for a maternity session. I cannot wait for them to come back for their newborn session! I know that baby girl is going to be absolutely beautiful. We had a lot of fun in the studio especially since Rebeca doesn’t speak English…she and Renato are from Brazil. Renato has been in the States for about 5 years; Rebeca, 1. So here we are, Waiting for Julia!

What a magical time in the lives of two people in love...

A beautiful day for a wonderful wedding at The Tutweiler! Scott and Tatiana were so much fun to work with. Tatiana is from Russia, and she speaks very little English. She and I had a great time together in spite of our language differences. Scott and Tatiana met while Scott was serving in the Navy. Scott and Tatiana and Scott’s sister and brother-in-law came to the studio Thursday to view the wedding highlights DVD. I’ll post a shorter version here later–I’m having problems getting the video to load! Tatiana is an amazing woman–I just love how animated she is. She and Scott are adorable together. Aah, love and romance. Oh…here are a couple of my favorite images, too.

So much romance--just had to use a painterly affect

High school seniors are some of my most favorite subjects. John came into the studio yesterday–first time we had ever met. We spent a few minutes talking and getting to know each other. He’s graduating next month and going to UAB–from there to Auburn for pharmacy school. What an impressive young man! I must add that he has recently achieved his Eagle rank. I worked on a few of the images we made and wanted to share them here. Please feel free to comment! Thanks…

Just relaxin'

A funny story

Cool...

Renato and Rebeca are expecting their first child next month. Here are a couple of images from their session. It’s so exciting to me to be part of this precious time in the life of a couple. We had a great time in the studio using strobes and continuous lights. Can you see the difference? I used strobes on the white background, and continuous lights on the black. I absolutely love continuous lighting–it gives a more intimate feel to the portrait. I use them especially for maternity, newborn, and couples photography. Last week I demonstrated continuous lighting at the local camera club meeting. The members who used my set up seemed very impressed with the results they were seeing on the backs of their cameras. Let me know what you think of these…

Seniors are one of my favorite to photograph…my son graduated last year, and I have a 14-year old daughter so I’m “tuned in” to teenagers. I absolutely love the high energy and optimism of teens! Here’s a slideshow of Lily’s photo session from last week. We shot some in the studio–very high fashion look–and some around Old Town Helena to give her an “urban grunge” look. Lily smiled all afternoon even especially when I asked her not to…she’s a delightful young woman who is just naturally happy. So…watch her smile and find yourself smiling back at her–I know I did!

Carolyn and Cathy of The White Room recently moved from Helena to Cahaba Heights. Buddy and I photographed their new location last week and would like to share some of the images. Their new location is beautiful, and their gown display is incredible! They represent a number of designer lines and have many, many samples from which to choose. Lauren modeled a dress for us so we could get a feel for one of the bridal dressing rooms. When you visit The White Room, please tell them you saw their photos here! :)

Sunday afternoon we had the pleasure of photographing Sam and Hannah, and some photos include their two beautiful and well behaved black labs! We had a great time getting to know them while we encouraged them to act naturally with a camera lens pointed at them. I think we all had a terrific time. Enjoy the slideshow…

The grounds were wet on the wedding day, and we really wanted to get some photos of Wendy at the lookout at her church. By the way, this is the spot where Frank asked her to be his wife. :) We also had the opportunity to go back to The Harbert Center to do some photographs of Wendy on the wonderful staircase and in the lobby with an incredible Oriental screen. Five o’clock came up fast so we didn’t have as much play time in that area as we wanted. I’ve posted several images here. If you want to see more, please visit my fan page. Andy Hopper provided the bouquet for this photo shoot. He is awesome! :)
