Carla and Baby Kate came in the studio today for Kate’s 3 month session. What a delightful baby! We had a great time while she modeled several different outfits. I’m working on a wedding storybook today so I haven’t gone through all of her images–this one jumped out at me, and I just had to share!
month: February 2010
Tammy Harrison with PCT Inc came back from a trade show recently and brought me this adorable little bee in honor of my new logo. It was so thoughtful of Tammy–I just had to share!
What shall we name the little bee??? I used my macro lens and photographed him on my business card, using another card as a backdrop. This little guy is my mascot.

Sexy, sassy sirens–images based on the old pin-up illustrations and photographs just so we can “B Girls”! What a wonderful way to celebrate being a female. Brides love this type of photography as a special gift to their grooms (perhaps on their wedding night!); women who work out and are in the best shape of their lives no matter their ages are “B Girls;” celebrating a birthday milestone? have a birthday party with a couple of your best friends in the studio! “B Girls” is for you!

Enjoy this slideshow of Caleb from our recent session. We really had a great time both outside and in the studio.
Perfect Wedding Guide has a cool library located in Homewood where brides can research vendors from all over the Birmingham area. They can look at books from photographers, florists, and caterers to name a few. PWG also has a blog that is quite informative. If you’re recently engaged and planning your wedding, check out their blog. If you’re thinking of saving money by not hiring a professional photographer, check out a short article I wrote: “Hire a Pro”–check it out at the PWG Blog.
Chris and Tiffany came by this morning to view a slideshow of their wedding storybook. Here’s a slideshow…you’ll be looking at a 2-page spread at a time.
Recently we participated in a bridal show at The Club in Birmingham. The venue is absolutely fabulous, and all the vendors really put on their best show. Here are a few images from the morning, just before the show opened. My husband, Buddy, had a great time with his latest “toy”–a Canon G11. Yes, we are Nikon shooters, but this little Canon has captured the attention of the photography community. Please visit my facebook page to see a complete album of his images.
December and January have been very hectic months–I’ve made a commitment to myself to post every day. I’m waiting for Emily and Sonny to bring me the photos they want included in their album…as I was reviewing their proofs, I was struck by the beautiful work of Diane Olexa.
Diane Olexa owner of Olexa’s Catering, Cafe & Cakes provided the wedding and groom cakes for Emily and Sonny. Their reception was held at The Tutweiler in December. I know it’s morning, and these photos will make you crave dessert! If you’re in the Birmingham area, go by Diane’s cafe in Mountain Brook for lunch–yummy!

During World War II, Hollywood stars such as Betty Grable and Rita Hayworth inspired our fighting men and were used as a reminder of home. The images were called “pin-ups” because they adorned the walls and lockers of every branch of service. Not only were photographs of Hollywood’s most glamorous women used in this way–there were a number of very talented calendar artists like George Petty and Alberto Vargas who provided images of young women in sexy, sassy poses. These images were a stark contrast to the combat zones where they were frequently seen. The men in uniform would not only “pin up” the photographs and calendar pictures, they would duplicate the images on the noses of their planes, the sides of the ships, and even on the bombs. An unknown author of this quote from August 9, 1945, said it all: “What legs they had though! It’s all in fun and this is what makes a lot of us forget when the war is going to end.”
With all that is so serious in our lives, it’s a wonderful escape to play “dress-up.” I have so much fun with my brides during their bridal sessions, and I wanted to include another avenue for play time in my studio. After attending several workshops on the art form of pin-up photography, I’m happy to present B girls. My two main inspirations for this photography are Vargas and Elvgren. This is the latest in a series that we are currently working on. Watch for more images soon!
